The
Board of Directors and staff of Public Counsel thank our outstanding
honorees and generous contributors for making
this
year’s William O. Douglas Award Dinner a resounding success.
Over
$2.2 million was raised to support Public Counsel’s nationally
recognized programs serving nearly 25,000 clients annually throughout
the Los Angeles metropolitan region.
Every
dollar donated to Public Counsel will provide approximately twelve
dollars in pro bono legal
and other services.

William
B. Richardson, Governor of the State of
New Mexico (Full
Bio) will
be the recipient of the prestigious William
O. Douglas Award.
Governor Richardson was elected Governor
of New Mexico in 2002 by the largest margin
of any candidate since 1964. Governor Richardson
served
for 15 years as New Mexico's Representative
in the 3rd Congressional District. Governor
Richardson served in 1997 as the U.S. Ambassador
to the United Nations, and in 1998, he was
unanimously confirmed by
the U.S. Senate as Secretary of the U.S.
Department of Energy. Governor Richardson
has been nominated several times for the
Nobel Peace Prize.
Microsoft will
be the recipient of the Corporate Achievement Award for their global
leadership in technology innovation and corporate
citizenship. Accepting the Award will be Microsoft Senior Vice President,
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Bradford L. Smith. (Full

Presenting
Mr. Smith with the Corporate Achievement Award will be the Attorney
General of the State of California Bill Lockyer (Full

Howrey LLP will
be honored with the Law Firm Pro Bono Award for their extraordinary
contributions of
time, expertise and resources on behalf of indigent, vulnerable
and victimized segments of our community. (Firm

Award will be Joanne Caruso, Managing Partner of Southern California.

Paul Getty Trust will be receiving the Community
Leadership Award for establishing a world-class center
for the visual arts in Los Angeles and for
their extraordinary investments in the people
and institutions of our great city. The Award
recognizes their global leadership in collection,
research, scholarship and education, conservation
and philanthropy and your unwavering commitment
locally to outreach and educational programming
that engages students, schools and residents
