Dreamers File Suit Against Government for Breaking Its Promise on DACA

"This lawsuit is about keeping the American Dream within reach for nearly a million young people who have worked hard and given back to their country and their communities. By breaking its word with the Dreamers, this Administration violated not just the law but the promise of an equal opportunity for their generation." — Mark Rosenbaum, Director of Public Counsel’s Opportunity Under Law

Public Counsel is proud to support Six Dreamers who have filed suit against the federal government for breaking its promise on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The “Dreamers case” is the first lawsuit from DACA beneficiaries, and if successful would block the Trump Administration from ending the program.

This lawsuit gives Dreamers – the people most affected by the unconstitutional decision to end DACA – an opportunity to tell their own story and demand fairness from their government. Public Counsel is honored to represent these fierce and resilient young people in their pursuit of justice!

We are particularly excited that one of the plaintiffs, Viridiana Chabolla, previously worked at Public Counsel for four-years as an organizer with our Opportunity Under Law project. She is now a first-year law student at UC Irvine.

We intend to do all we can to ensure that Dreamers remain part of our community. We are holding a series of DACA Renewal Workshops in the coming weeks, where all filing fees will be covered (information available HERE).
