As the nation's largest public interest law firm, Public Counsel provides direct legal services to our most vulnerable community-members through a pro bono model that leverages the talents and dedication of more than 4,000 attorneys, law students, paralegals, social workers and other volunteers annually. Each year, Public Counsel's law projects honor a select group of those who have gone above and beyond, providing exceptional pro bono service that has changed lives.

The 2016 Public Counsel Pro Bono Award recipients are an extraordinary group of gifted and dedicated practitioners who have generously donated their time to ensure justice for the most vulnerable in our community. As this year comes to a close, we are recognizing the honorees with events at their law firms and corporate offices. Please join us in congratulating this year's honorees (listed below).

Uplifting News About National Pro Bono Week

As part of National Pro Bono Week (October 23 – 29), Public Counsel's Guardianship Clinic joined forces with 15 pro bono attorneys from Bank of America, Goodwin Procter, Kirkland & Ellis, Pillsbury Winthrop, Proskauer Rose, and Steptoe & Johnson to complete court forms to secure permanent guardians for children in need. At this outreach event hosted at the Los Angeles County Law Library, prospective clients met with legal volunteers and filled out all of the court documents required to become the youths’ permanent legal guardians. That very same day, Public Counsel filed the completed paperwork with the court, ensuring that these kids will have the stability and support they deserve.

Also that week, Public Counsel's Debtor Assistance Project conducted a comprehensive client interview and intake night at the County Law Library to help individuals resolve their outstanding consumer debt. More than 20 volunteer attorneys from Akin Gump, Alston & Bird, Arnold & Porter, Blank Rome, Cozen O’Connor, Davis Wright, Dechert, Foley & Lardner, Hogan Lovells, K&L Gates, Legal Elements, NBCUniversal, Paul Hastings, Proskauer Rose, Sheppard Mullin, Syncromatics, and Witkow Law met with potential clients and provided direction on their cases.
