Bankruptcy lawyers and judges hit the streets of Santa Monica for the 3rd annual Leslie Cohen Law 5K Run/Walk. They raised an impressive $10,000 to support the valuable work of Public Counsel's Debtors Assistance Program.

Public Counsel helps provided legal help and representation to more than 3,300 pro se Chapter 7 bankruptcy filers last year through our self help desk and clinic, and through monthly hearings in the Los Angeles and Woodland Hills Bankruptcy Courts.

Over 300 runners and walkers came out to the Leslie Cohen Law 5K on April 26, 2014, to support us. They included prominent members of the bankruptcy community such as the Honorable Catherine Bauer and the Honorable Julia Brand, as well as Chapter 13 Trustee Kathy Dockery and members of her team.

"The Leslie Cohen Law 5K helps support the important work of Public Counsel in providing desperately needed bankruptcy legal services to individuals and families who have nowhere else to turn to for legal assistance," said Public Counsel supervising senior staff attorney Maggie Bordeaux, who oversees the debtor assistance project.

Participants, ran, jogged and walked along the scenic course from Ocean and San Vicente and through the lovely residential area in beautiful Santa Monica.

A very special thank you to Leslie Cohen who generously donated her time and passion to making this event such a great success! We are already looking forward to next year’s LCL 5K!
