Traumatic Brain Injury Affects Veteran's Life Back at Home
"Jason" is a veteran of the Iraq War and a client of Public Counsel's Center for Veterans Advancement (CVA). Jason saw massive combat and bloodshed while serving in Iraq and has been diagnosed with severe psychological problems stemming from his combat experience, including post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Because of his injuries, Jason was unable to keep a job and became alienated from his family. Jason was receiving only a small amount of the VA service-connected disability benefits he was entitled to, and his legal and financial problems were keeping him from moving forward with his life. CVA Director Rick Little and Staff Attorney Stacy Zimmerman have successfully advocated to increase Jason's disability compensation three-fold. CVA staff and volunteers assists returning veterans throughout the country with VA benefits claims and removing other legal barriers they face.
