client is a non-profit serving at-risk teens, with a focus on foster
youth. The client’s current programs
consist of providing a virtual online website community for such
youth. The client is currently operating
a website which will maintain such youths’ vital life documents
and provide continuous online education, medical, independent living,
and career resources necessary for self-sufficiency. Prior to 2000,
the client operated multiple group homes throughout Southern California.
The client is seeking pro bono assistance from an attorney with knowledge
of tax exempt organization laws to review the organization’s
Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws and advise about possible amendments
to these documents, because the organization has changed its primary
activities since obtaining tax-exempt status.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING/FAIR HOUSING LAWS
This nonprofit client provides affordable housing, economic development
opportunities, and support services to low income people, with
the goal of preserving the economic, racial and social diversity
of the
communities it serves. The client is seeking pro bono assistance
from an attorney familiar with fair housing laws to advise whether,
and within what parameters, the client can provide a preference
in renting affordable housing units to low-income persons who share
similar values (such as political views).

client has been formed to provide transportation to seniors
and people with visual impairments who are unable to
drive, due to
age-related
changes that compromise their safety, independence and mobility.
The client needs an attorney who can assist with amending
the nonprofit’s
articles of incorporation and bylaws to change its name to
reflect the expansion of its services to a broader geographic area. |

Asian Pacific community through culturally and linguistically
appropriate mental health services. The organization is planning
to partner with a nonprofit affordable housing developer to create
supportive housing for their low-income client population. The
client is currently seeking a pro bono attorney to review its memorandum
of understanding with its nonprofit partner regarding their respective
roles in the supportive housing development. There is the possibility
that this client may also need future assistance reviewing the
partnership
agreement and other contracts relating to the acquisition and
financing of real estate. |

technical assistance to existing and start-up women and minority
business owners.
The organization is currently looking for an attorney who could
present a basic overview on the choice of legal entities and contracts
to
a group of emerging micro-businesses. The audience has minimal
or no prior knowledge of the subject. The seminar is going to be
located
at the client’s office in Los Angeles on January 31, 2008
from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. |
